Benson Food Forest

Creating a space to feed the generations to come and to gather, explore, and eat together. With the help of the nonprofit Blossom & Wood, we will be able to offer a space for many opportunities to learn during all four seasons!

Project 1. Design

The beginning stages to a food forest are design and planting of trees and perennials. With the gracious assistance of a landscape architect we are creating a 3D model of our dream space. This dream includes an outdoor kitchen, greenhouse, gathering space, raised beds for annuals, paths to explore the forest, sensory garden, spiral herb garden, and so much more!

This phase should be completed by the end of 2020. Watch our social media outlets for updates soon.

Project 2. Outdoor Kitchen

This outdoor kitchen will be the home of many virtual videos, workshops, and shared meal preparations. It's a big project that will have an even bigger impact. They say the kitchen is the heart of the home and it will definitely be the heart of our forest.

It's currently a blank canvas ready for the many volunteer hands to build this community space together. Our hopes are that we can have a functioning kitchen by next summer (2021).

Project 3. Raised Beds

These beds will be home to our annual produce plants that we grow from saved heirloom seeds every year. It will have four sections that are geared towards our community needs as well as, Blossom & Wood program focus for teaching healthy eating and connection to food.

This will be an ongoing project with a section built each year.
