What makes it natural?
We are not yet certified organic but we do practice completely natural garden methods. This means absolutely no chemical or unnatural additives, fertilizers, or pesticides are used in our garden.
We companion plant and use natural defenses like marigold, mantis, or organic clay and oil based cures.
As for our Urban Chicks - they get the best mixture of grain and veggies with some free range yard time to peck at bugs and grass.
Once upon a time a chef met an environmentalist...
They fell in love with the idea of local produce in a land of ethanol farms. The idea of Fork N Farm was born. Currently in an urban setting we are able to connect with our customers and provide an example of urban farming for Omaha citizens. We dream of finding that abandoned farm house to rescue someday. When we do make that transition down the line our desire is to turn our urban farm into a community garden.
Eventually Fork N Farm will be home to many free range chickens, turkeys, goats, pigs, and maybe even cattle. For now we have a flock of chickens for eggs, a hive of bees, and our little dogs too. We practice natural farming techniques to create healthier local food. We want to make you happier healthier people by sharing our farm with you and protecting the planet at the same time.
Natural farming means we use the best seeds and practice seed saving when we can. No unnatural or toxic pesticides or fertilizers are used, just good old fashion manure! By spending the time to plan our fields, we can use nature to our advantage through companion planting and crop rotation.
Protecting the environment is just as important to us as growing clean healthy food for our community. Long term goals are to introduce renewable energy by wind, solar, and geothermal. Eventually becoming a completely self sustaining closed system with zero waste. With the addition of farm education opportunities!
